September 7 – November 16, 2005 (no class on November 2)

Location: Lawrence 206

We can remain healthy, vital, and attractive as we age, or we can suffer from the many health problems associated with poor lifestyle choices.  Although genetic predispositions have a strong influence, our health greatly depends on how we choose to care for ourselves.  This women’s class will build a supportive environment to help each participant develop practical nutrition, exercise, and healthy lifestyle strategies.  We’ll focus on the motivation that is essential for making lasting positive changes.  We’ll discuss preventing and managing many common age-related problems such as weight gain, loss of vitality, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, osteoporosis, and cancer.  We will also discuss problems specific to women such as PMS and menopausal symptoms.

All classes will be held in a campus classroom.  We will discuss exercise strategies and focus on aerobic exercise for cardiovascular health.  (This class will not include strength-training instruction.  Strength training classes are available spring semester.)
