In my twenties, I nurtured my growing family, practiced yoga, and became a vegetarian and organic gardener. In my thirties, I became a nutrition and preventive health care counselor. In my forties, I studied natural approaches to menopause so I could help myself and others in this transition. In my fifties, I transformed my body with strength training, adding muscle and vitality to flexibility and cardiovascular fitness and became a Certified Personal Trainer so I could teach others about the joy of exercise. Now, in my early sixties, I lecture and write about strength training, bone health, nutrition, healthy aging, and other health topics. I teach women's health classes in Ithaca, NY and work with private clients. My most recent articles (links are above) discuss exercise, nutrition, and complementary support during cancer therapy. My article, "Designing Exercise Programs to Lower Fracture Risk in Women," appeared in the February 2006 edition of the Strength and Conditioning Journal. Browse around this web site for in-depth articles about nutrition, exercise, bone health, women's health, and healthy aging, plus my favorite vegetarian recipes.
This
is your body,
Your greatest gift,
Pregnant with wisdom you do not hear,
Grief you thought was forgotten,
And joy you have never known.
