Strong
bones are essential to an attractive and healthy body. Unfortunately, poor bone
health (osteoporosis and osteopenia) is common in American woman. Bone strength
is of special concern to women at midlife and older, but poor bone health is
increasingly common in younger women due to inadequate nutrition, severe
dieting, too little or too much exercise, genetic factors, and smoking.
Fortunately, you can improve
bone health and lower fracture risk with a well-designed exercise and nutrition
program that simultaneously improves your general health, appearance, and
self-confidence. This class, designed for women of all ages and fitness levels,
will help you develop strong bones for life. The class will emphasize the
following:
Understanding and lowering risk factors for bone fracture
Learning a bone-strengthening resistance training program appropriate and safe for your fitness level
Improving bone health with aerobic exercise
Improving balance to prevent falls
Using nutrition and nutritional supplements to improve bone health
Understanding bone health testing: bone scans, bone resorption, and vitamin D
Motivation and program design for a busy life
